How do I obtain my prescription?
Under the UK Opticians Act of 1989, it is the obligation of any optician to provide you with a prescription. The optician will provide you with a thorough eye examination and is required by Law to provide you with a copy of your prescription for your own records. You are not under any obligation to purchase your glasses from your optician so do not feel pressured into doing so.
Why are our prices so low?
Due to the cost savings of the Internet, our prices are significantly lower than what you would find in the high street shops. We keep our operating costs low by not renting expensive, prime location property or paying for the upkeep of expensive eye testing machinery in multiple stores. We order all of our frames and lenses directly from the manufacturer, which allows us to pass on the savings to you, the customer.
Are you qualified to sell prescription spectacles?
Yes. We understand that people can be apprehensive when buying prescription spectacles online. Every order placed with us is inspected by a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. We take our products and our business reputation very seriously.
All outgoing prescription spectacles are thoroughly checked by our qualified Dispensing Optician to ensure that they have been made to the required prescription and that they are of the highest quality. Although our prices are competitive, we only use the highest quality material. All our lenses come with the internationally recognised CE mark of quality.

What is my pupillary distance (PD) and how do I obtain it?
The PD is the measurement of the distance between your eyes. It is used to set the centre of the lenses in your glasses to align with the centre of your eyes. Usually opticians will not include this with your prescription, so you can ask your optician for your PD measurement. We can also take this measurement from your existing glasses, you can also measure your own PD in millimeters by using a ruler and measuring the horizontal distance from the center of one pupil (black spot) to the other. Alternatively we can make your glasses using an average PD which has been provided by our appropriately qualified optician.
How to read and enter your prescription?
Use this prescription example and term definitions table to help solve the once confusing puzzle. Keep in mind, not all prescriptions will have these fields filled out.
How to read your prescription from your optician:

Our frames are private label generic eyeglasses frames which are high quality and trendy, yet can be bought at a low price. Our frames don’t just look, but feel good as well. Majority of our frames are made from Plastic, Metal Alloy, Memory Metal (Bendy), and Titanium which is allergy free. Nose pads are either Plastic or Silicone.
Do you supply frames with no Prescription?
Yes, to do this just select “Buy Frame Only” on the product page.
What if my frames need adjustment after I receive them?
Most high street opticians will do minor adjustments normally for free or some may charge a small fee. We make sure your glasses are well aligned and straight before we post them to you therefore normally adjustments are not normally needed.
What if a screw has fallen out of my frame?
If the screw is missing, return your glasses to us and we will fix this for you and deliver them within a few days. If you have the screw, you can take them into an optician who may request a small fee to fix this for you.
How can I tell if the frame is going to be the right size?
Step 1 - Is to choose a similar size to a comfortable pair of glasses that you already have. All our frames have measurements of the lens size, the bridge width (DBL) and the temple length. You will be able to read these measurements off your present frames. They are always in millimetres. See below:
Step 2 - We have a virtual try-on system which supports you to try on the glasses frames you choose online, so that you can know how they will look on you.
The shape of your face is the most important factor when choosing any frames. the list below will give you some ideas as to frame designs.
- Round Faces - Rectangular frames would be most suitable.
- Oval Faces - Most frames will suit this shape, size is the most point when deciding on frames.
- Triangle Faces - Rectangular frames would be most suitable.
- Square Faces - Oval shaped or Round Frames would be most suitable.
- Rectangular Faces - Oval and Round Frames would be most suitable.
What are your lenses made from?
Our standard lenses are made from CR39 1.50 index material plastic material manufactured to British Standards. Do you sell Bifocal lenses?
Yes. We do. We supply Flat-Top D28 Bifocals as our standard lens. However if you are currently wearing a round (R28) please include your request in the comments box before check out.
What are Varifocal lenses?
Varifocal lenses have three parts. The top part is normally used for seeing things at a distance and the prescription gradually increases towards the bottom of the lens which is used for reading. The middle part is normally used for looking at the computer or anything else at arms length e.g. looking at the dashboard of the car while driving. These are ideal for people who need use their glasses for distance, intermediate and near without the need of removing their glasses.
Do you sell Varifocal / Progressive lenses?
Yes we do. Due to the complexity involved in these lenses, we take some additional steps to ensure we get the exact measurements. These measurements can be taken from a previous pair of glasses that you send to us. It doesn’t matter if the prescription is out-of-date, just as long as they were comfortable when you used them.
If you would like to place an order for varifocals, please call one of our opticians on 01923 440 105.
What types of Varifocals do we supply?
There are many different kinds of varifocal lenses available in the market today. When you go to an optician you will be presented with 3 or more options before choosing your extras. Usually they refer to as Standard, Ultrawide or Superwide varifocals.
The difference between the three types is the central areas of the lens which provide clear vision when viewing through them. At Vision Eyewear we do not supply standard varifocals and only supply Ultrawide and Superwide varifocal as these lenses offer wider field of view and comfort.
We also only supply Freeform lenses that are digitally surfaced to offer enhanced field of vision at all distances. They have less distortion at the edge of the lens and the power of progression is more gradual when moving from distance to near when compared to traditional varifocals.
Advantages of having free form lenses for our customers:
- Easier to get used to varifocals for both first time and existing wearers.
- Enhanced field of vision at all distances.
- Less distortion at the edge of the lens.
Do you sell Prescription Sunglasses?
Yes. We do. You can have prescription sunglasses made up in any frame of your choice online (except some models). Simply choose your frame and choose the tint colour you require and select the tint to be either Light, Medium or Dark depending on how dark you want your sunglasses.
What protective coatings do you offer for your lenses?
We offer scratch resistant as standard on all our lenses. We also offer Anti-glare, Super Anti-glare.
You also have the option of having Transitions VI lenses, Polarised lenses or even Tint your lenses.
What is Scratch Resistant Coating?
At Vision Eyewear all our lenses have scratch resistant coating as standard. Lenses normally scratch very easily if not taken care properly. This coating is applied to both sides of the lens with a clear, scratch resistant coating which has a much harder surface that is more resistant to scratching, whether it’s from dropping your glasses on the floor or occasional cleaning them with a tissue. Keep in mind that even the best scratch resistant coating can’t completely protect your lenses from wear tear.
What is Anti-Glare?
Anti-Glare coating (also called Anti-reflective coating) is a thin multilayer coating that eliminates reflections from the front and back surfaces of the lenses. Anti-Glare coating is highly recommended for all spectacle lenses, especially for high index lenses as these lenses often cause more noticeable reflections. Anti-Glare coating also eliminates glare or the halo effect around headlights and street lights caused by light reflecting from your lenses. With reflections eliminated, it provides better vision and comfort for night driving. Anti-Glare coating is also beneficial if you spend a great deal of time on the computer. Working on a computer for an extended period of time can lead to eye strain, as your eye muscles struggle to view specific areas of the monitor and battle the glare. Typical symptoms of eye strain or eye fatigue while working on the computer include blurry vision, dry eyes and irritation.
What is Super Anti-Glare?
Super Anti-Glare works the same way as Anti-Glare but has added advantages and improves the efficiency of the Anti-Glare coating.
- Smudge Resistance.
- Dust Repellent.
- Water Repellent.
- Easier to clean.
Our Super Anti-Glare coating comes with a 1 Year Standard Guarantee from manufacture fault.
What is UV400?
You cannot see ultra-violet light, but it is very dangerous to the eye and can damage the retina. Ideal for people who want their eyes to be constantly protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Overexposure to ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, retinal damage and other eye problems.
What are Polarised Lenses?
Polarised lenses have a special filter that lets only the useful light through. Horizontal light causing glare is blocked by the polarising filter. They are tinted lenses which offer 100% UV protection. Ideal for driving, water sports (e.g. fishing and sailing). These lenses reduce glare, enhanced colour perception, improved contrast and greater visual comfort. They are available in 2 colours Grey and Brown.
What are Transitions Lenses?
These lenses get darker outdoors and virtually clear indoors. Transitions lenses automatically adopt to changing light conditions to reduce eye fatigue and eye strain. It offers 100% UV protection and fast fade back. They are available in 2 colours Grey and Brown
